Five days. One home base. Two ways to spend every single day.
We skip the multi-city shuffle entirely. Instead of packing bags every other day, you settle into one beautiful town and let the trains do the moving. Day trips radiate out in every direction. Heavy luggage stays in your room the whole time.
Up when ready. Checks the group chat. Takes the train to Stonehenge, climbs the cathedral tower, walks the canal path. Comes back buzzing. Never feels guilty for doing too much.
Sleeps in. Finds the best cafe within two minutes of the door. Reads by the river. Grabs a pint at the pub on the aqueduct. Has a genuinely good day that required zero planning.
Open invites only. "Anyone heading to Bath tomorrow, want to share the train?" Nobody is obligated. Nobody is left out. Plans form and dissolve naturally.
Everyone books their own room independently. You are not in a group hotel block. They book the Hilton if that works for them. You book the inn by the river. You meet for dinner.
Same town. Same dinner table. Completely different days. Nobody holds anyone back. Nobody misses anything they actually wanted to see.
The canal at Bradford on Avon is two minutes from your door.
Getting here is a full travel day. Flight into Heathrow or Gatwick, then 2-3 trains to Bradford on Avon. Plan for it. Arrive, drop your bags, walk to the nearest pub. Tomorrow is when the trip actually starts.
No car rental. No driving on the wrong side through roundabouts after a redeye. Just trains. Plan your journey at National Rail.
Once you walk out of Bradford on Avon station and see that stone bridge over the river, you will understand why this town was worth the journey. Luggage stays in your room from here. You unpack once.
Bradford on Avon station. Step off and you are already there.
An ancient wool town tucked against the River Avon. Stone streets, independent shops, a flat canal path, and one of the most quietly spectacular spots in England a short walk from your door. Charming without being precious.
Sally Lunn's, Bath. Oldest house in the city. Get the bun.
The Red Lion, Avebury. The only pub inside a stone circle.
Drop a message if you want to sync up at the train platform or share the day. If not, go at your own pace. Nobody is taking attendance.
Post a recommendation if you found a good spot. Ask if anyone wants to join an excursion. Zero obligation either way.
Check in if you want company for dinner. He wants a quiet pub. You want to try the local place. Both happen. No argument.
The Huntsman, Bath.
This is not a rigid plan. It is a menu. Take what works for your trip and leave the rest.
