I spent 30 years managing projects that couldn't afford to go wrong. Turns out that's exactly the skill set for planning a trip to Europe that works for both people in it.
Procurement schedules. Vendor contracts. Logistics that involved a lot of people, a lot of moving parts, and zero tolerance for "we'll figure it out when we get there." That skill set transfers directly to the thing I actually love doing, which is planning trips to Europe that work for everyone in the group, including the person who just wants a good hotel and a flat walk to a pub.
I didn't get to Europe until I was 42. I'd wanted to go since I was 12. When I finally went, I stood still long enough to actually absorb it. Mozart in Salzburg. Reading every placard. No rushing. No agenda imposed by a tour bus. That's the trip I'd been building in my head for 30 years, and the logistics I'd spent 30 years learning how to manage were exactly what made it work.
My husband wants the pool, the AC, and absolutely no driving in foreign countries. I want the coastal path and the local market at 8am. We've figured out how to have both, from the same hotel, without negotiating every single day. That's the model. That's what I build.
I'm not retired. I'm building toward it. Everything here is funded by the work I do on nights and weekends because the destination is worth it.
If you want the plan without the years of trial and error, that's what I make.
I won't recommend a destination I haven't been to.
I won't sell you a plan I haven't pressure-tested.
I read every message and reply personally.
